Roeland's Chess Career
In his career he got to play against players that now dominate the chessworld. Players like former World Champion Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Wesley So, and Anish Giri. With his exciting dynamic playing style he got invited to play in tournaments all over the world. He visited countries like India, Guatemala, Lebanon, Italy, China and more. During his travels, he kept improving his chess and managed to get the highest titel of Grandmaster in 2012 with many tournament victories behind his name. He played in the highest level competitions and managed to secure multiple national team victories.
Most notable achievements
- Runner-up in the National Dutch Championship of 2022
- Tournament victor of the Leiden Chess tournament in 2008, 2016, 2018
- Shared 1st place in the Mumbai Mayors Cup 2017
- National Dutch team champion in 2015/16, 2021/2022 and 2022/23.
- Top-scorer in the Dutch competition of 2012/13 with 8 1/2 out of 9 games and a TPR of over 2800.

Chesscoaching
On the side he has always helped others in improving their game and since 2018 he has gradually switched from professional chess to coaching. Now he is a full-time chesscoach and enjoys teaching students at all levels of which some have become titled players themselves.and many have had improvements of hundreds of ratings points!
